Remembering Collin Lee Teem

Collin Lee Teem was more than a Marine. He was a son, a brother-in-arms, and a man who believed deeply in standing up for freedom wherever it was threatened. Though his life was cut tragically short at just 23 years old, the legacy he leaves behind continues to inspire those who knew him and even those who never had the honor to meet him.

Born and raised in South Carolina, Collin carried the values of courage, loyalty, and sacrifice from an early age. Those qualities led him to serve as a machine gunner in the United States Marine Corps with 1/4 Charlie Guns. The Marines shaped him into a warrior, but those closest to him knew his strength came from something deeper — a sense of responsibility to protect others and do what was right, no matter the cost.

In September 2023, Collin made a decision that would define his legacy forever. While many watched the war in Ukraine from afar, he felt called to act. He told his mother that the Ukrainian people deserved freedom “just like we do,” and believed his training, physical endurance, and mental toughness could help make a difference. That conviction led him across the world to join the International Legion of Defense of Ukraine.

For eight months, Collin served alongside fellow volunteers and Ukrainian defenders, often carrying and operating an MG5 machine gun in some of the war’s most dangerous areas. Those who served beside him remember a man who stood firm under pressure, someone willing to place himself in harm’s way to protect others.

On May 11, 2024, during an intense artillery barrage, Collin was killed in action while holding the line so his comrades could reach safety. In his final moments, he embodied the very values he lived by: courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to others.

Though his passing left an immeasurable void, Collin’s story did not end on the battlefield. His fellow Marines rallied around his family, honoring him through commemorative fundraisers, memorial gear, and support for his parents during an unimaginable time of loss. Organizations and brothers-in-arms came together not only to remember him, but to ensure his family felt the love and respect he earned through his service.

Collin’s bravery has also been formally recognized beyond those closest to him. He was honored in the United States Congressional Record as an American hero, and his name now stands among those remembered by Ukraine’s National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War through the “FOR FREEDOM” project, which recognizes foreign defenders who gave their lives for liberty.

This memorial bracelet serves as more than a tribute. It is a reminder of a young man who chose service over comfort, courage over fear, and sacrifice over self-interest. Every bracelet worn in his honor carries forward his memory and the values he stood for.

Collin Lee Teem’s life reminds us that heroism is not measured by how long someone lives, but by the impact they leave behind. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, his Marine brothers, his fellow fighters, and all who continue to honor the freedom he believed was worth defending.

Gone, but never forgotten. Semper Fidelis.
