HONORING LCPL ROGELIO A. RAMIREZ
 
United States Marine Lance Corporal Rogelio A. Ramirez, 21, of Pasadena, California, served with 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California.
 
On August 26, 2007, LCpl Ramirez gave his life while conducting combat operations in Saqlawiyah, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
 
He had achieved a goal he had worked hard to reach — becoming a United States Marine.
His service, courage and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
SERVICE TO COUNTRY
 
LCpl Ramirez served as an infantry Marine and machine gunner.
During his deployment to Iraq, he served alongside his fellow Marines during combat operations in Al Anbar Province.
 
On August 26, 2007, while participating in a nighttime patrol and convoy-security mission near Saqlawiyah, an explosive device struck his vehicle.
 
He was 21 years old.

A MARINE REMEMBERED
Those who knew Rogelio remembered a Marine who was committed to the people around him and determined to accomplish his mission.
His journey to earn the title United States Marine required determination and persistence.
He earned that title.
 
He deployed to Iraq.
And he ultimately gave his life while serving his country and the Marines beside him.
GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN
 
We remember LCpl Rogelio Ramirez not simply for the day he died, but for the Marine he became and the life he lived.
 
His name remains part of the legacy of the Marines of 1st Battalion, 1st Marines who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
